When I was 12 years old, I entered a contest to have my artwork featured on one of Vanderbilt University’s football season tickets. To my surprise, my design was selected and printed on thousands of tickets for the 1998 game against the University of South Carolina. Seeing something I created become part of a major sporting event was the first time I realized that art could exist beyond my sketchbook and become part of people’s everyday experiences.

Looking back, that ticket represents more than an early accomplishment. It was one of the first moments that gave me the confidence to keep creating. What started as a childhood drawing became a small piece of Vanderbilt history, and it remains a reminder that even the earliest opportunities can shape an artist’s path in unexpected ways.
