This piece started with me wanting to break something familiar down into its simplest parts. I was less interested in realism and more focused on shape, contrast, and how far I could push the image using just light and shadow.
I tend to see things in patterns and blocks of value, so this felt like a natural way to work. Each section is built slowly, paying attention to edges, transitions, and how everything fits together. It’s a pretty controlled process, but I like that. It forces me to stay present with the work.
The blue background gives the figure space to sit in. It adds a sense of calm while the pose itself carries more direction and energy. I’m always looking for that kind of balance, something that feels steady but still has movement.
For me, this piece is really about focus. Taking the time to simplify something and rebuild it in a way that feels clear, intentional, and fully thought through.
